Book ’em, Diddy?

The hip-hop mogul is scheduled to appear on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0” this spring in an episode where he’ll play a detective looking to avenge a crime committed against his family. Music from Diddy-Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris will also be featured in the episode, according to The Associated Press.

Diddy’s latest effort debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard albums chart last month. “Anybody that knows me, it’s rare when I’m extra happy, but today … this last two weeks, I’ve just been blown away by all the support that I’ve gotten from you guys,” the rapper said in a YouTube clip at the time of Paris‘ release. “You already know I deal with a lot of hate, and I talk about that. But it’s also important to talk about when I’m dealing with a lot of love, and the love that y’all have shown me and the girls on this project … y’all made this project a success, and I want to say thank you.”

Recently, Diddy has been making the awards-season rounds, appearing at the Golden Globes despite not earning a nomination for his role in Judd Apatow’s “Get Him to the Greek.” He told MTV News at the Globes that he hopes to land more comedic roles in the future.

“I’ve done a lot of drama mostly my whole career, with Broadway and ‘Monster’s Ball’ and stuff like that — my short little career,” he said. “But when I did ‘Get Him to the Greek,’ I really fell in love with making people laugh. I have a knack for improvisation, and hopefully I’ll be able to make people laugh more.”

Drake has already conquered the charts and the road, but now the former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star is in talks to headline his first movie.

A spokesperson for producer Johnny Lin’s Filmula company confirmed Monday that Drake is in negotiations to join the financial thriller “Arbitrage.” The Wrap reported that the Young Money rapper is considering joining the cast of the indie film, which will be written and directed by Nicholas Jarecki (“The Outsider”).

According to the site, the movie follows the path of a hedge-fund magnate who is in over his head and desperate to complete the sale of his shady trading empire to a major bank before his fraud is revealed. But then an “unexpected, bloody error” forces him to turn to an unlikely source for protection.

Susan Sarandon and “Casino Royale” star Eva Green have already signed on to play the wife and art-dealer mistress, respectively. The movie is slated to begin filming in March in New York and will feature a reunion of Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino and Sarandon, who co-starred in HBO’s Jack Kevorkian biopic “You Don’t Know Jack.” Pacino will play the lead role; it was not known at press time what Drake’s part would be.

It wouldn’t be the first time Drake (born Aubrey Graham), 24, has made the jump from TV to films, following up on his small role in 2007’s “Charlie Bartlett.”

Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Flurry Of Movie Remakes

27 Jan

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like ‘Arthur’, ‘Annie’ and ’21 Jump Street.’

What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They’re all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.

On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic “A Star Is Born” (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake “Annie” (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.

In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby,” with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the ’80s Johnny Depp-starring television series “21 Jump Street” to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film’s March 16, 2012, release date.

And let’s not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned “Footloose” remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.

Then there’s “Arthur,” the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.

Two recently announced remakes are “Lethal Weapon” and “The Wizard of Oz,” which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.

Just this past year, films from “Clash of the Titans” to “The Karate Kid” to “A Nightmare on Elm Street” were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. “Alice in Wonderland” and “Clash of the Titans” went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while “Piranha 3D” and “The A-Team” also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

Usher Most Admires Justin Bieber’s ‘Excitement And Innocence’

With so much accomplished in 2010, Justin Bieber has certainly set the bar high for 2011. But the teen singer is already gearing up for next year. Bieber will not only release his much-anticipated 3-D flick, “Never Say Never”, but he has also teased that he’d like to release an album of all-new material sometime later next year.

His mentor, Usher, thinks that at this point, the sky’s the limit.

“As far as music and entertainment, that’s the beginning,” Usher told MTV News at Sunday’s AMAs, where Bieber performed and took home four awards.

“There’s so much more in store for the future, or at least there’s a ton of things we can do and will, and with the support of his fans who will continue to just grow and grow and grow.”

At 16, Bieber has accomplished what few manage with many more years in the music business, but Usher said he wants to ensure that Bieber doesn’t stop enjoying it all as his popularity continues to grow and his schedule gets busier.

Asked what he admires most about Justin, Usher said, “His excitement and innocence in it. And I don’t mean that in a light way because I think that he’s absolutely enjoying every moment of it, as any young man his age would, but in a different way because [of] the hard work that has gone in and led to the dream that has become a reality. And every time you have an opportunity do something incredible, I tell him to do his best and be conscious that what you’re doing today should last forever and eternity.”

What did you think of Justin’s AMA performance on Sunday? Tell us in the comments!

Cher Voices Frustration Over ‘Burlesque’ Oscar Song Snub

‘We didn’t get a nomination 4 best song! That sucks!’ the icon tweeted about ‘You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.’

After the Academy Award nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, “Burlesque” star Cher made it clear she wasn’t going to be celebrating with the nominees.

The icon wasn’t pleased with the lack of recognition for her Diane Warren-penned tune “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” from the flashy musical, and she took to Twitter to express her frustration. While it was overlooked by the Academy, the “Burlesque” song recently scored a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

“We didn’t get a nomination 4 best song ! That sucks ! Diane’s song Is so beautiful !” Cher wrote. “It’s hard to understand how u win.” Then she referred to her Globes win: “The Golden Globe 4 BEST SONG & not even get nominated by the OSCARS? Oh well it is..what it is ,,,,the sun is still shining !”

Baffled by the snub, Cher even contemplated whether it was her role as the song’s performer that impacted its Oscar odds, writing, “maybe she would have had a better chance if someone else was singing it ?!! IT JUST CANT B HER SONG I”

The Golden Globes are typically seen as a good forecast for the Oscars, but the awards aren’t a guarantee of Oscar love. A handful of stars from Oscar-nominated movies weren’t recognized by the Academy, including Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”) and Julianne Moore (“The Kids Are All Right”).

Do you think Cher’s “Burlesque” tune deserved an Oscar nomination? Tell us in the comments!

Check out everything we’ve got on “Burlesque.”
